Hello! We are Emery and Neil Schlichtenmyer.
Who we are
Emery and Neil are a married couple living in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Neil is a hands-on engineer, woodworker, and nature lover. Emery is a writer, amateur mermaid, and enthusiastic gamer. We have two cats, enjoy frequent movie nights, and spend most of our weekends traveling, whether to nearby hiking spots or out-of-state friends.
What we do
Dynamic Duo Designs sells 3D printed items, from decorative to functional and in between, at festivals, fairs, farmers markets, and other events.
How we started
Dynamic Duo Designs is an organic partnership that grew from Neil’s 3D printing hobby and Emery’s creative daydreaming.
Neil, the engineer, spends hours at work designing solutions to clients’ problems, before coming home to joyfully spend hours more tinkering with his own creations. Emery, the creative professional, has an eclectic collection of tastes, interests, and hobbies, which happen to include organizing events and an affinity for office supplies.
Turning those interests and hobbies into a business began with a dress. Or, more accurately, a flea market.
On a vacation celebrating our second wedding anniversary, we went to the Shipshewana Flea Market in northern Indiana. At a booth near the entrance, a beautiful blue gown caught Emery’s eye. At the same flea market, several booths sold 3D printed items, including adorable articulated tiny animals.
Once returned from the flea market with both the dress and many tiny animals in hand, Emery began to daydream. There was now a beautiful dress, but nothing to wear it to. Except… an event in Michigan, later that summer, happened to include a red carpet gala following a festival.
Neil’s mind began to wander, too. He could easily print items like those he saw at the flea market, and more. What if he could get more out of his 3D printer than a tinkering hobby?
So, with remarkably little discussion needed, a joint idea was born. We would attend the festival (and other events) as vendors by day, and use the proceeds to attend the gala by night.
